Cikitsa

Yoga therapy

Cikitsa in Sanskrit means "treatment" or "therapy," and in the context of yoga, it refers to using the principles and techniques of yoga to address physical, mental, and emotional health issues. Cikitsa Yoga incorporates asanas, pranayama, and meditative practices that are personalized to the individual, considering their specific health conditions. The aim is to alleviate pain and discomfort while guiding the individual toward overall well-being

Bija

Chanting

Bija means "seed" in Sanskrit. By naming the chanting class Bija, it signifies the practice of planting seeds of sound and intention through chanting, with the aim of cultivating inner peace, spiritual growth, and deeper connection. This name evokes a sense of beginning a journey toward greater awareness, with the vibrations of the chants serving as the seeds that grow into transformative spiritual experiences. 

Maitri

Pranayama

Maitri in Sanskrit means "loving-kindness," "friendship," or "benevolence." It represents the cultivation of compassion and goodwill, both toward oneself and others.

In the context of pranayama (breath control), Maitri suggests that the practice is not only about breath control but also about nurturing a gentle, compassionate relationship with oneself. It implies that through conscious breathing, we create a space of inner kindness and calm, which can extend to how we relate to others.

Samyama

Meditative Practices

Samyama in Sanskrit refers to the combination of three advanced practices in yoga: Dharana (concentration), Dhyana(meditation), and Samadhi (enlightenment or deep absorption). These three stages are considered the culmination of meditation practice, leading to a state of profound inner peace and self-realization.

These classes are aimed at deepening focus, enhancing concentration, and guiding practitioners toward connecting deeper within themselves.

Samastithi

Samasthiti in Sanskrit refers to a balanced, grounded posture that symbolizes stability, grounding, and mindfulness. These classes focus on balance, both physically and mentally, encouraging students to find harmony and centring in their practice on the mat, so they can carry on this quality achieved here off the mat into their regular routine.

Vicara

Journaling

Vicara in Sanskrit means "contemplation" or "reflection." It refers to the process of deep thought, inquiry, and inner examination.

These classes emphasizes using journaling as a practice of self-reflection and introspection, encouraging participants to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a mindful and contemplative manner. helping students to understand that journaling  is not just about writing, but also about diving into one's inner world, gaining clarity, and fostering personal growth through thoughtful inquiry.
